Healthy Trojans - Wellness at USC

Wellness at USC

Welcome to USC’s Healthy Trojans Website! Come explore your new portal to the world of wellness and work/life here at USC. This site is designed to provide our Trojan family of faculty, staff and students with helpful information on the policies, programs and resources related to physical wellness, emotional and social well-being, spirituality, community service and more.

Creating a Culture of Wellness at USC
The Healthy Trojans website is a natural outgrowth of the University’s overarching concern for the well being of its Trojan Family and the surrounding community.
In addition to seeking to support individual wellness goals such as enhancing fitness, maintaining a healthy diet, achieving a healthy weight and reducing stress, we seek to create a culture of wellness that permeates our USC community. We understand that work life and family life are not separate and that not only the mind, but also the body and spirit must be cultivated in order to thrive.

USC’s Family-Friendly Initiatives

This increased commitment to work/life and wellness at USC was inspired by a series of family-friendly initiatives proposed by Provost Max Nikias in late 2005. His initiatives provided guidelines for improving the quality of life for USC faculty and staff and promoting health and wellness. Both the Work and Family Life Advisory Committee, and the Academic Senate have been working hard on actualizing these initiatives. In fact, the Academic Senate President, Ann Crigler (2006-2007), was so committed to this process that she made work/life and wellness a primary agenda for 2006-2007.

A Collaborative Process
Creating a well community cannot happen in a vacuum, and it is the enhanced cooperation and collaboration among the many individuals, departments, programs, and schools that have long contributed to improving wellness across the USC community that makes this site possible.

The Center for Work and Family Life, which serves as a key linkage point for faculty and staff health and wellness, is coordinating this website. Paula Swinford and her team at Health Promotion/Prevention Services are maintaining the student section of the website. Additionally many departments and individuals are working hard behind the scenes in the development and implementation of this website, especially Ann Crigler, Jenna Hootstein, Lisa Ybarra and the Academic Senate Executive Committee; Elahe Nezami and the Work and Family Life Advisory Committee, Marty Levine and David Haugland from the Vice Provost’s Office for Faculty Affairs, Candy Borland and Star Rosencrans of ITS, Janis McEldowney, Linda Clingerman and Howard Kouo of Administrative Operations, Patrick Bailey from the Office of Student Activities, Jennifer Siu of Recreational Sports, Patrice Barber, USC nutritionist of Trojan Hospitality, Sara Tompson of USC Libraries, Carlin Daley of CAPS, and others.

Be Well
Once again, welcome to this website and we hope you take advantage of the many wonderful resources available to you. We look forward to working together to create a community where we can all thrive - emotionally, physically and intellectually. Be well.
